Molokai is considered the ultimate test of ocean paddling, the one true race that people judge/admire and respect you on. Does gym work help paddling, the answer is yes most defiantly, the thing that should never happen is a gym session should never take the place of a paddle session if time poor. I believe know one should do gym unless they are paddling 3 times a week, this may have to change if you can't get to 3 paddles a week. I think your gym sessions should tie in with the timing of your racing calendar. So if you are in your off season you should look to get some strength work done, reps of say 6-8 maybe 4...

I would say that I am a fussy paddler, I like everything to be right when I paddle. I hate paddling in tops that a big and baggy, to long on the top so it sits down my back and rubs and catches when I rotate, also the same if to short rubbing on my hips when I twist. I also like to have a snug fit with my pants, I like them to be padded for a little comfort but not to thick with padding so I'm off balanced. I have to be able to rotate in the seat....
